CUNNEEN ELECTED SGA PRESIDENT FOR '06-'07

By KEVIN SWITZER
April 13, 2006

The results are in and the 2006-07 SGA Executive Board has been named. When the polls closed on Thursday, March 30th, Betsy Cunneen (rising senior) was elected president; Mark Blair (rising junior) was elected Vice President/Treasurer; Maria José Torres (rising senior) was elected Secretary; and Sidney Hoff (rising senior) was elected Public Relations Officer. When asked about her plans as SGA President, Cunneen said “I am enthusiastic about making next year one of the best years yet for SGA.”

On Tuesday the 28th, SGA hosted the third annual presidential candidate debate. (See related article.)

There was significant turnout on election day. According to an SGA election official, over 200 students came to the polls to vote for their candidates. Such a turnout was quite impressive, particularly considering that the polls closed at 1:00 p.m.

Meanwhile, the current Executive Board and the rest of SGA continues its work under Whorton’s leadership. Be sure to see this month’s SGA column on page 2 reporting some of their latest endeavors on the students’ behalf.
