THE NEW GREEKS

By SHENEKIA MCDANIELS AND LATONYA CARTER
February 4, 2006

Delta Psi Theta became an official Greek organization at the beginning of this school year. Delta Psi Theta is the first minority sorority on Belmont Abbey Campus.

Many ask why we started our own sorority. Well, the answer to that is kind of complicated, but basically we intended to create a sisterhood that reflects the growing minority population on Belmont Abbey campus. This does not mean that we discriminate against anyone. This chapter was created by Nivilla Campbell, Latonya Carter, Latoya Gordon, Shenekia McDaniels, and Edolie Stantos.

Delta Psi Theta seeks to establish a sorority of “phenomenal women” who encourage education, moral integrity and excellence throughout the community.

Many people think that a sorority is just letters on a t-shirt, traditional songs, pins, and rituals. But it involves a lot more. It is about learning about people and about yourself. It is giving without expecting anything in return and it is receiving without knowing it. Sorority members earn respect from others and learn to be part of a team. A sorority will not solve all your problems, but you are guaranteed to find good friends and self confidence that will help you in life.

Delta Psi Theta brings a new twist to Greek life on the Belmont Abbey campus. We entered this semester with rejuvenated enthusiasm to display to the campus what Delta Psi Theta is all about. We are the first sorority to incorporate step routines as our signature. We hope to gain support of all those at the Abbey.

Delta Psi Theta is currently seeking all females who would like to add a spark to our flame. For all females who are interested in Delta Psi Theta, don't hesitate to contact any of us for more information.
