DECK THE HALLS WITHOUT BREAKING THE BANK

I find it hard to get into the Holiday Season without walking through a few feet of snow. But wherever you are this holiday, make it festive, show your love, and enjoy your time with the people close to you.

This task may seem difficult if you are low on cash, but not to worry. Here are a few inexpensive ways to brighten up the holidays:

  • Do you have a lot of friends and not a lot of cash? Give them the gift of time. Make a date where you all go out to dinner or get together and instead of exchanging presents just share in each other’s company.

  • Don’t know what to get mom and dad? If you have siblings, now is the perfect time for you to bond. Put your money together and make a fun day of shopping.

  • Do you have a picture of you and a loved one? It will make the perfect gift. Buy a frame, photo clip, or get creative and make you own frame (colored foam sheets are fun and easy)!

  • Make coupons or gift certificates. These are great for parents, roommates, boyfriends/girlfriends, or anyone else. It’s thoughtful and so easy! Grab some paper, decorate it, and write something that you can do for that person.

  • Are you handy in the kitchen? Bake cookies, pies, or make chocolate covered pretzels and dip them in colored sprinkles. You will have fun with whomever helps you and you are creating wonderful, yummy gifts. Jazz them up by wrapping them in saran wrap and ribbon.

  • Buy some plain ball ornaments and decorate them yourself with paint markers. You will be sure to give a one of a kind gift.

  • Think back to when you were elementary school. Make paper chain links in festive colors, put Cheerios and popcorn on a string, or grab some white paper and make snowflakes!

  • Make a charitable donation and give a gift. It’s easy to find things to give, such as bracelets or stuffed animals. Looking for a places where you can be charitable? Go on the web and try www.until.org or www.breastcancer.org/store.html. Or visit area Kohl’s stores where donations can be made.

  • Finally, you can also get into the Christmas spirit by donating your time and help to those who are less fortunate. Go volunteer.
