TRICKS, TREATS, AND MORE
By AMBER MCCLOUGHAN

Who wants to go trick-or-treating? It been years since I got to do that. But apparently it is not cute when college students put on a mask and go door to door asking for candy.
However, that is not an excuse not to enjoy this time of the year. I love when the air begins to cool and the leaves begin to change. It is an awesome time to be outside. It’s not too hot or too cold. And even better, this is the time of year we all get an extra hour to sleep!
If you are not from the area you may not know where to go for all the festivities. Here are a few suggestions for you and your friends to have fun.
Scarowinds is not too far away (just up the road in Charlotte). They are open Fridays and Saturdays from 7 p.m. to midnight. Tickets can be purchased for $34.99 at Harris Teeter, Blockbuster, and online.
The Queen City Ghost and Graveyard Tour (also in Charlotte) is $15. Call 704-258-0922 or check online for more details.
If you like to camp and you like haunted houses, the Campground Massacre in Charlotte may be the place for you. More details and discount tickets are available online.
If you are looking for something only minutes from school, try the Haunted Mill right over on Franklin Blvd. Tickets are only $12.
If you are into myths and local ghost stories check out http://theshadowlands.net/ for some “real” haunted places in North Carolina.
If your not up for a scare but still want to enjoy the outside weather, try the very popular Carolina Renaissance Festival. Gates open at 10 a.m. every day and stay open until 5:30 p.m. Admission is $16. Check http://www.royalfaires.com/carolina/ for more details.
On Friday, October 27th at 11 p.m. Delta Tau Delta is hosting the CUB-sponsored “Delta Skelta.” For everyone who loves to dress up, come out for a good time. A prize will be given for the best costume!
Keep and eye out for signs posted by Resident Assistance inviting area students to the Abbey for a safe trick-or-treat. If you wish to partake in the festivities, you can decorate your suite/apartment and hand out candy to all the trick-or-treaters. And if you really want to go all out, you can dress up yourself!
Do you like being outside and hiking or picnicking? Or are you are a history buff who is interested in the Revolutionary War? Consider a trip just over the border to Kings Mountain, South Carolina, to visit the Kings Mountain National Military Park. For more information about the park and how to plan your trip, visit http://www.nps.gov/kimo/moreintroinfo.htm.
Finally, consider sending your your friends a Spook-a-gram! Delta Chi Club will be selling Halloween messages attached to candy for you to send to your friends. Portions of the proceeds will go to the American Breast Cancer Society. (Oct. is Nat’l Breast Cancer Awareness Month -- see related story).
Whatever you choose to do, have a fun and safe Halloween.
