ABBEY RENEWS AGREEMENT WITH LOCAL YMCA

By JEANETTE JOHANSSON
September 12, 2006

Last year, the students of BAC were given the opportunity to go to the YMCA for free both semesters and just pay 50% of the member price during the past summer. It was a great opportunity for all of us to make use of everything from personal trainers, the pool, basketball league, weight room, express kickboxing and yoga. This opportunity is being offered once again to us and I encourage everyone to take advantage.

For those of you who want to lose weight but do not want to spend two hours running around campus in the rain, there is a special program developed called the “Quick/Cross Workout Program” that only takes 45 minutes of your time. You can get a copy of the first four week workout plan and healthy nutrition tips from the YMCA staff.

Going to the gym and lifting weights is not always the most attractive option for people who need some more intellectual stimulation. There are other programs that are focused on group exercise. Some of these include

  • Interval Energy
  • Stretch & Flex
  • Step Intensity
  • Kickboxing
  • BodyPump
  • Sports Conditioning
  • Pilates
  • Yoga
  • Body Sculpting
  • Hip Hop
  • Cycling (Spinning)
  • Lo impact/Hi intensity
  • Fit Start (Beginner class)
  • Bench Aerobics
  • Fit Tots
  • Cardio Ball
  • Abs & Back
  • 30 mins Express Cycling
  • 30 mins Express Sculpting
  • 30 mins Express Kickboxing

For the athlete who likes more competition, the “Y” also offers a vide variety of sporting activities in their intramural program, including

  • Adult Co-ed Volleyball
  • Men's Basketball
  • Senior Badminton
  • Adult Co-ed Soccer
  • Adult Co-ed Flag Fotball
  • Fantasy Football
  • Adult Co-ed Kickball Does anything look interesting? Take the opportunity to try out as many as you want. Rumors going around campus saying that no one is allowed to sign up any more or that you have to attend two times a week are not true. Just bring your student ID and ask in the information desk to sign up.

    Hours of operation: Monday through Friday, 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.; Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Sunday, 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
