Editor's Note: The following photographs and prints
depicting Fr. Abram J. Ryan have been digitized from a variety of source
materials in the archive. Many are from magazine and newspaper clippings
compiled in scrapbooks by Sr. Mary Josephine Donnallan, who initially began
amassing the archive as early as the 1890's. This effort was later continued by
Fr. Joseph McKey who collected materials through the 1940's. Unfortunately, most of the
clippings were trimmed so that publication dates and source details were lost.
In addition, editorial practice in the late 19th century frequently allowed use of uncredited
photographs. As a result, most of these photographs were not mentioned in
the texts of the articles they accompanied. Still, this appears to represent the
first time a range of Ryan portraits has been assembled spanning his adult life from
before the Civil War to the last years of his life.--DRB
